Our Journey to Building Our Dream Home with Kingston Homes

When we first decided to build a new home rather than remodel our current one, we knew it would be an exciting challenge, especially with two kids in the mix. We felt strongly about the decision to build again, having had a great experience building before. We needed to find the right builder to bring our vision to life, and Kingston Homes and the Northside community in Washougal, Washington, ended up being the perfect match.

We put our house on the market, flew out here, and met with six or seven different builders. Having built custom homes in the past, we knew what we wanted and were ready for the process. This time, though, the stakes felt a little higher. We were building from across the country, which meant finding a builder with strong communication was key. Fortunately, we found that with Chris and his team at Kingston Homes.

One thing that set Kingston Homes apart from the other builders we interviewed was the lack of pressure. In Atlanta, we sometimes felt that builders were upselling for monetary gain, more like used car salespeople than partners. With Kingston, it was different. Chris and his team made decisions with us, not for us, which made the entire process feel more collaborative.

Another thing that stood out with them was their base custom home package. While other builders would have charged us a fortune to add the features we wanted, Kingston’s standard offerings included many of the items on our wishlist. That, combined with the variety of upgrade options, was a huge selling point for us.

We loved how Kingston allowed us to make meaningful customizations. Instead of visiting standard showrooms, we worked directly with local specialists like a cabinet maker and a flooring shop. This allowed us to select exactly what we wanted, making the process feel truly custom despite being in a planned neighborhood.

A significant change we made was to convert a multi-gen layout into something that worked better for our family. We replaced a full bath with a larger pantry to accommodate a second refrigerator. We also had a vision for a marble-look backsplash in the kitchen, and Kingston’s partners helped us find the perfect porcelain tile to bring that vision to life. Every little detail, down to the way the tiles were laid, was executed to perfection.

The backyard is one of our favorite areas of our new home. We envisioned a space where the kids and dogs could run around, and we could entertain friends and family. Kingston turned that dream into reality, complete with a patio set, outdoor fireplace, and even a TV above it. Summer evenings out there are magical, and it’s truly our favorite spot in the house.

What really impressed us was Kingston’s attention to detail throughout the process. During the warranty walkthrough, they caught things we hadn’t even noticed. That level of care made us confident in the quality of our home. Knowing the builder is as invested in the project as you are makes all the difference.

We’re absolutely thrilled with the final product. The house is everything we hoped for, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing things won’t start falling apart is invaluable. It’s a home we can see ourselves living in for the next 10, 15, or even 20 years.

We believe you get what you pay for, not just in terms of money but also time. We waited a bit longer than expected, but the result was worth it. The little luxuries, like our smart oven (which still surprises us), and the small things we didn’t even know we wanted, make all the difference.
